Critical Repair Program

Repairs And Rehabs

Habitat for Humanity of Worcester County completes critical repairs and rehabs for existing Worcester County homeowners who are otherwise unable to complete the work themselves or obtain a conventional loan to do so.  Each family must be approved during the application process, and the project itself must be approved by a Scope of Work which determines the scale of the project, Habitat's capacity to complete the work, and the homeowner's ability to pay for the work needed. Habitat may enlist the assistance of a third-party funder such as the USDA for financing options for critical repairs. In very limited circumstances, options may include a combination of loans and grants.

When inquiring during an application round, please make sure that your project would qualify under one of these programs.

A Brush With Kindness

We participate in the national Habitat exterior repair program, A Brush With Kindness. The Brush With Kindness Program is an exterior repair program and work can include painting, gutters, siding, porch and stair repair, landscaping, etc.  General critical repairs for amounts up to $5000 are available.

EXHALE Project**** Program Closed, Not Accepting New Applicants

We have partnered with TidalHealth, Wicomico Habitat, and Chesapeake Housing Mission for the EXHALE project, an asthma and COPD control program. Tidal Health was awarded grant funding that is be used to identify, educate, and address asthma and COPD triggers, or trigger producing conditions, in eastern shore homes. Habitat Worcester will address critical housing repairs that will improve quality of life for asthma and COPD sufferers and are specific to roof repairs. Referrals will be made to Habitat by Tidal Health's community health workers. Requests that come directly to Habitat Worcester and are related to asthma/COPD/EXHALE will be referred to Tidal Health for health assessment.

Please note - a referral made from Tidal Health is not a guarantee for approval for construction services. All prospective applicants must also meet Habitat criteria for critical repairs.
